Spotlight on Local Businesses: Skin by Angela
At Victoria Suites, we love highlighting the talented entrepreneurs who make our Vancouver Island community so vibrant. One of those people is Angela, owner of Skin by Angela, whose lifelong passion for healthy skin has shaped an inspiring journey in aesthetics.
Angela became a licensed esthetician at just 18, and has spent decades helping people feel more confident in their skin. After running a successful spa for 17 years, she launched Skin by Angela a year and a half ago, her fourth business, and one that reflects her deep passion for results-driven treatments paired with a personal, educational approach.
What makes Angela different is her ability to dive deep into skin health. She understands that many clients are left waiting months for dermatology appointments and often come to her looking for answers. Instead of offering temporary solutions, she works to repair the skin barrier, balance natural oils and hydration, and treat the root causes of skin conditions. Her focus is always on long-term results rather than quick fixes.
Her methods are guided by three key pillars:
-
Education – Angela believes knowledge is empowering. She provides her clients with written guidance and clear explanations of why certain products or ingredients work. From ceramides and fatty acids to oxidative stress and hormones, she helps clients understand what truly drives skin health.
-
Custom Facials – Every treatment is fully customized to the client. She does not offer pre-set “packages.” Instead, she studies how the skin reacts and heals, tailoring facials to the skin’s unique needs. Clients often return every 6 to 8 weeks so Angela can track progress and adjust treatments.
-
Homecare Products – Angela is intentional about every product she recommends. She is not a mass retailer but carefully selects bioavailable products that support real results and are suited to each skin type and budget.
Her treatments go beyond the typical facial. She incorporates advanced tools, including FDA-certified LED light therapy, microcurrent, and therapeutic masks, to create treatments that are both restorative and effective. While her facials are designed to deliver results, Angela also ensures her clients feel relaxed and cared for. They are designed to deliver measurable results while still offering a restorative and calming experience, blending clinical knowledge with a sense of care.
Angela is also candid about what can and cannot be achieved. For example, with clients managing acne or rosacea, she focuses on identifying triggers such as hormonal imbalances, stress, or even digestive factors, then teaches how to manage them realistically. She never promises to erase a condition completely but instead equips her clients with the knowledge and care plan to achieve healthier, calmer skin over time.
Her own experiences with acne are what inspired her to fall in love with skin care in the first place. Now, in her 50s, she speaks openly about how she has seen and felt the benefits of a lifetime of healthy skin practices. This honesty, combined with her deep knowledge, creates trust with her clients. Her passion is helping people build confidence through skin that not only looks good in the short term but remains healthy for years to come.
Angela calls herself a “skin geek,” and her clients would agree. She cares deeply about results, but she also cares about the person behind the skin. Her ultimate goal is to help people walk away not only looking refreshed but also feeling educated and empowered to care for their skin every day.
